Welcoming Address of the WAPP Board of Directors

To the Participants of the 8th World Congress for Positive and Transcultural Psychotherapy

Dear Colleagues and Friends!

The Board of Directors of the World Association for Positive and Transcultural Psychotherapy wishes you a very warm welcome to this extraordinary international gathering on the Greek island of Crete. To gather in this historical country which is so rich in its cultural heritage, creates a special environment for our Congress.

This will be our 8th World Congress of Positive and Transcultural Psychotherapy. We have started with these international gatherings in 1997. In the past 25 years, each of these events was a motor for further development of our Association. Especially, the past two congresses in Turkey have pushed our organization, its work, and its impact, to a higher level. Each congress led to more ideas, innovations, and improvements. More and more people joined our community and actively participated in its development.

With now over 2,000 members in 38 countries our Association has grown fast in the past ten years. Thank you for being part of this international Positive Mental Health movement! We look forward to seeing the many new ideas which will be perceived during and after this conference.

For this congress, we are expecting about 500 participants from 30 countries representing all five continents of the globe. This will be one of the most diverse and transcultural congresses we have ever had.

Meeting people has received a totally new perspective since the outbreak of the Corona pandemic. Such a congress gives a unique opportunity to socialize with people, and to “feel the human”. The pandemic has made it difficult to meet colleagues and friends, and we hope this event will bring us back together. We wish to be able to turn this crisis into an opportunity to learn and grow. The setbacks and opportunities coming along with the pandemic will also be discussed in our congress presentations. Our psychotherapeutic interventions and insights are and will be needed for our patients and clients much more than before the crisis.

The program contains keynotes, plenary hot topics, express talks, workshops, short presentations, and posters. We will have some special keynote speakers this year to enrich our congress. There will be more than 100 presentations with most interesting topics, personal experiences and different approaches. There will be so much to learn that you will find it hard to choose which presentation to go to. And flanking this scientific program we will have social events in the evenings, such as a cultural evening, a memorial meeting about Nossrat Peseschkian in digitalized videos and lively reports, the election of the new Board, and a dancing party.

The five-star congress hotel “Kalimera Kriti Resort Hotel” at a beach of Crete will be a perfect place to gather and recreate. You can arrive earlier to combine the conference with a short holiday stay. The beautiful nature and historical atmosphere of the surrounding will make your stay a unique transcultural experience.

We wish you a very pleasant stay and a fruitful conference.

For the Board of the World Association for Positive and Transcultural Psychotherapy
